It was a throat—pink, veined, and pulsing with the slow, wet breaths of a dying leviathan. Commander Elara knelt on a floating shard of obsidian, her palm pressed against the flank of Valdris, the Emerald Great Drake. His scales, once the color of spring canopies, were now cracked and weeping amber light.
