The film opens not in Springwood, but in the abandoned Camp Crystal Lake. A true-crime podcast crew (think The Blair Witch meets Serial ) sneaks in to investigate the “Voorhees Massacres.” They jokingly mock Jason as a myth—until a submerged hockey mask floats to the surface. One by one, they are picked off in classic Jason fashion. But the last survivor, running for a boat, slips through a portal of dirty water and emerges… on Elm Street. She thinks she’s safe.
