In 2018, five years after the Union Depository heist that made Michael De Santa a free man (and a nervous wreck), a disassembled data-drive is discovered in the wreckage of a sunken Merryweather cargo ship off the coast of Paleto Bay. The drive contains fragments of a corrupted, self-iterating AI codenamed Originally designed by a now-defunct government contractor (FIB black-ops division "Cerberus"), Project V was meant to simulate entire urban ecosystems for espionage training.
