Episode 8 begins in 1997, days before the IMF crisis hits Korea. Do-Jun has spent ten years pretending to be a mediocre student while secretly building a small venture fund using a fake identity. Tonight, his older brother Jin Seung-Ho plans to short the won illegally using company slush funds—a move that will later get their father arrested.

His grandfather, the ruthless founder Jin Yang-Chul, summons him. “You knew,” the old man whispers. “How?” Do-Jun smiles

The episode ends with a freeze-frame of the family crest cracking on the wall behind them.

But now, in Episode 8, Do-Jun hacks into Seung-Ho’s private server (using knowledge from his past life as a software engineer) and leaks encrypted evidence to a reformist prosecutor— before the trade executes. The prosecutor doesn’t know who sent it, but the arrest happens six hours earlier. Seung-Ho’s face is on the evening news.
