In Tamil Nadu, Sagara Sangamam is an important festival, with devotees gathering at sacred rivers and beaches to offer prayers and take a holy dip. The Kanyakumari district, being a coastal region, celebrates this festival with great fervor, with people taking a dip at the confluence of the three oceans (Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean).

As Ganga touched the ashes, the 60,000 sons of Sagara attained Moksha (liberation). The confluence of Ganga with the ocean (Sagara) is celebrated as Sagara Sangamam.

However, the sage, Kapila, was disturbed by the sacrificial rituals and, in his divine wrath, reduced the 60,000 sons of Sagara to ashes.
