The series was saved by Brandon Sanderson, a superfan chosen by Jordan’s widow, Harriet. Sanderson wrote the final three volumes ( The Gathering Storm , Towers of Midnight , A Memory of Light ) from Jordan’s extensive notes.
Purists note the shift in prose (Sanderson is more functional, less lyrical). However, Sanderson did what Jordan could not: he moved the chess pieces. The Gathering Storm contains the single best chapter in the series—"The Gathering Storm"—where Rand nearly destroys reality on the peak of Dragonmount, before achieving his epiphany: “Why do we live again?
