Why WhatsApp No Longer Works on the Samsung GT-S3850 (And What You Can Use Instead)
You might think, “Can I just use WhatsApp Web?” Unfortunately, no. WhatsApp Web is not a standalone browser. It requires a primary smartphone (Android/iOS) with an active internet connection to mirror the messages. The Corby II’s browser is too old, lacks the necessary encryption (TLS 1.2/1.3), and cannot scan the QR code required for WhatsApp Web.
The most critical factor is the operating system. The Samsung GT-S3850 runs Samsung Bada OS (version 1.1 or 2.0). WhatsApp was never officially developed for Bada OS in most western markets, and the few versions that existed for Bada 2.0 were discontinued by WhatsApp in 2017.
Like WhatsApp Web, you need a smartphone. But if you have a smartphone nearby, you could technically use the Corby II’s browser to log into Telegram’s web client ( web.telegram.org ). However, the experience is slow and broken on most pages.
The Samsung GT-S3850, also known as the Samsung Corby II, was a beloved feature phone from the early 2010s. With its vibrant 3.14-inch resistive touchscreen, Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI, and physical buttons, it was the perfect bridge between a dumb phone and a smartphone.
The GT-S3850 has an excellent email client. Set up Gmail or Outlook via IMAP. It works perfectly for asynchronous communication. Add the email widget to your home screen to see new messages instantly.
