The third painting was a window overlooking a sleeping city. Purple dusk bled into indigo night. Elara stared at it for an hour. When she finally looked up, her clock read 3:00 AM. But she could have sworn only five minutes had passed.

One night, she attempted the fourth painting: a girl standing at the edge of a cliff, hair lifted by an unseen wind, watching a sky that was half fiery sunset, half cold stars. Elara painted until her wrist ached. At midnight, she fell asleep at her desk. twilight art book

She should have thrown the book away. Instead, she bought a set of fine brushes and silver paint. The third painting was a window overlooking a sleeping city

Elara didn’t close the book. She picked up her brush, dipped it in twilight-blue paint, and began the final painting herself. When she finally looked up, her clock read 3:00 AM

They now read: “Welcome home.”

Elara never meant to steal it.
